Photofacial (IPL)
What Cobble Hill, NY patients need to know about IPL treatment
The team at KHROM MEDSPA & WELLNESS in Brooklyn is dedicated to providing a comprehensive array of aesthetic and wellness-promoting services for our patients from Cobble Hill, NY, and other area communities. In keeping with this commitment, our office is equipped with cutting-edge technology, enabling state-of-the-art treatments including IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) Photofacials.
What is IPL?
Contrary to common belief, IPL is not a laser. They are quite similar, as both types of devices utilize the therapeutic power of light energy. However, lasers emit a focused beam of a single wavelength, which makes them very purpose-specific and quite potent. IPL devices work with broad-spectrum light, which is delivered in rapid, short pulses, making it gentler and more versatile.

What are the red and brown spots that I get on my face?
The reds are usually small blood vessels that are either visible or come across as red slush over someone’s face.
The browns are either brown spots or melasma which are hormone pigmentation spots that are frequently seen in some of our patients.
What are the procedures that help correct red and brown spots?
Treatments with Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) or what we call a photo facial.
What is the duration of the IPL therapy?
These procedures are done every 4-6 weeks for a series of 3 treatments and then they require usually a maintenance treatment once in every 6 or 12 months to continue preserving the clear tone of the skin.
About Photofacial treatment
Don’t be fooled by the name, “photofacial” treatment can be used on various areas, including the back, chest, hands, arms, and of course the face. It is an excellent way to rejuvenate and improve skin, without harsh or invasive procedures.
IPL may be recommended to correct:
- Melasma, unwanted freckles, birthmarks, and other pigmentation problems

Are you a suitable candidate?
Patients with sun damaged skin or pigmentation concerns are generally excellent candidates for IPL therapy, though it may be used for other problems as well. IPL treatment is gentle and noninvasive, and the customizable device allows the clinician to adjust the intensity of energy. Therefore, it is generally safe for most skin types. However, every patient is unique, and no single procedure is right for everyone. That is why we always begin with a skin analysis and in-depth consultation, enabling us to devise a customized treatment plan best suited to your specific needs and goals.
